Amir Khusro, a renowned Persian scholar, Sufi poet, and musician during the Delhi Sultanate period of the 13th century, made profound contributions to music. His impact is evident in various aspects:

  • Originator of Six Musical Styles: including khayal, tarana, qalbana, naqsh, gul, and qual.
  • Contributions to Sufi Music:
    • By integrating elements from Hindu and Persian systems, he played a pivotal role in the evolution of Qawali, a form of devotional music.
    • Additionally, he was among the first proponents of the art of crafting ghazals.
  • Introduction of New Ragas:including “ghora and sanam,”.
  • Invention of Musical Instruments Sitar and tabla.
