Formation of New Districts in Rajasthan
On July 7, 2023, a formal establishment program was organized for the newly formed districts in Rajasthan. Due to the state’s population and geographical conditions, there was a felt need for new administrative units. The larger size of the districts poses administrative challenges for collectors, and similarly, police officials face difficulties in maintaining law and order. The state government has allocated 2000 crore rupees for the new districts.
- In the state, 3 new divisions and 19 new districts have been created.
- The new divisions are Banswara, Sikar, and Pali.
- The new districts in the state are Anupgarh, Balotra, Beaware, Dheeg, Didwana-Kuchaman, Doodu, Gangapur City, Jaipur, Jaipur (Rural), Kekri, Jodhpur, Jodhpur (Rural), Kotputli-Bahrod, Khairthal-Tijara, Neem Ka Thana, Phalodi, Salumbar, Sanchore, and Shahpura.
- On March 21, 2022, to assess the need for the new districts, the “Ram Lubhaya Committee” was formed under the chairmanship of retired IAS officer Shri Ram Lubhaya. Based on the committee’s interim report, during the discussion on the State Budget for the financial year 2023-24 on March 17, 2023, Chief Minister Shri Gehlot announced the formation of 19 new districts and 3 new divisions, emphasizing sensitive, responsive, and transparent administration.
- With the vision of “Justice in Every Home, Prosperity in Every Home,” around 1500 revenue villages, 125 sub-tehsils, 85 tehsils, 35 SDM offices, 13 ADM offices, and 19 districts have been established in Rajasthan. This will lead to more convenience for the general public in administrative and judicial matters. The decentralization of administrative units will directly benefit the public. Pending revenue cases can also be resolved in a timely manner.
