• BJP leader – Vijay Rupani was sworn in as the 16^th – Chief Minister of Gujarat on Sunday.

• Bidar, Karnataka:
• Guru Nanak Jhira Sahib– Gurudwara will begin plantation drive as Amrut Kund – Pond of Gurudwara – faces shortage of water.
  • Legend says – Summer of 1512, Guru Nanak returning from his tour of Dakshina Patha or the Southern Sojourn, created the Spring which never dried for 5 centuries till 2016.
  • Reason – Excessive deforestation & Borewell digging.

• Nag Panchmi – different festivals across different places.
  • One Such, Yadgir district of Karnataka – celebrated festival called as  “Scorpion fair.”
  • First, first pooja is offered to goddess Konddammai, who is said to be a scorpion goddess and then devotes search for scorpion and play with them.

• Telengana State Scheme: Prime Minister, Modi, launched Mission Bhagiratha at Komatibanda Village, in Medak District of Telangana. The scheme has been launched by Telegana State Government with an objective to provide safe drinking water to all.
• Further he also laid foundation of:
  • 1600 MW Thermal Power station of NTPC at Ramagundam
  • Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal; and
  • Manoharabad-Kothapalli Railway line.

• August 7 – National Handloom day – 2^nd
• Last year: 1^st Handloom day was celebrated, by Modi.
  • Why 7 August: Date  7 August was chosen as it was on this day in 1905 that the Swadeshi Movement was formally launched, at a mass-meeting in the Town hall of Calcutta..

• Government to take up conservation of Mithun
  • Mithun – also called as Gayal
  • Semi-domesticated Bovine( Cow Family) – found in North East
  • State animal of Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland.

• Swachh Survekshan-2017 – launched
  • By Union Minister of Urban Development Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu
  • For: Assessing the levels of sanitation, efforts being made by respective States and Urban Local Bodies and to capture the improvements made since last Swachh Survekshan.
