- Lok Sabha has passed comprehensive Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Bill, 2015 to curb domestic black money.
- Bill seeks to:
- Amend the definition of benami transactions,
- Establish adjudicating authorities and an Appellate Tribunal to deal with benami transactions,
- Specify the penalty for entering into benami transactions.
- Union Cabinet has approved amendments to the GST (goods & services tax) constitutional amendment Bill
- Inclusion of five years compensation clause for state governments for any loss that they may incur.
- Adjudication of dispute between states and the Union Government by the GST Council, which will have representation from both the Centre and states.
- Removal of 1% additional manufacturing levy tax by manufacturing States from the Bill.
- Removal of 1% additional tax on inter-state sales as proposed in the Constitutional Bill.
- Union Cabinet has approved raising foreign shareholding limit from current 5% to 15% in Indian Stock Exchanges.
- Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of a new AIIMS at Bhatinda, Punjab under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
- Rajya Sabha on Thursday unanimously passed the Compensatory and Afforestation Fund (CAF) Bill, 2016 that allows States to access nearly Rs. 42,000 crore and channel into afforestation projects.
- The bill also establishes National Compensatory Afforestation Fund and a State Compensatory Afforestation Fund under each State

- 2016 Theme: “Elimination”. It focuses on elimination of hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
- There are 5 different types of hepatitis viz. A, B, C, D and E, caused by 5 different virus.
- India has signed a defence deal with United States for purchase of four additional Poseidon-8I (P8I) long-range maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft.
- The P-8I is a variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing is developing for the US Navy.
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has selected Muttiah Muralidaran(Sri Lanka) , Arthur Morris(Australia), George Lohmann(Engkland), and Karen Rolton(Australia)(Woman) to be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
- Distinguished agricultural scientist Dr. Neelamraju Ganga Prasada Rao passed away in Hyderabad, Telangana following a brief illness.

- Eminent figure in Bengali literature and a respected social activist , Mahasweta Devi, who lent her voice to the poor, passed away at a private hospital here on Thursday.

- Palar River originates in Nandh Durg Hills of Kolar district in Karnataka, flows through Vellore and Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu before falling into the Bay of Bengal.
