It is a terrestrial Meteorite Impact Crater.
Location: Ramgarh Village, Mangrol Tehsil, Baran district, Rajasthan
Formation : a circular depression of diameter of 3.5 km, was formed around 165 million years ago due to Meteor impact.
- Composition:
- The impact of the meteorite melted the sand in the area, forming glass.
- Higher-than-normal amounts of iron, nickel, and cobalt have been found within the crater
- Recognition and Heritage Status:
- Recognized as the 200th crater of the World Geo-Heritage.
- Declared India’s first National Geo Heritage site by the Rajasthan Government.
- Designated as Ramgarh Conservation Reserve under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
- Cultural Significance:
- Features a 10th-century Shiva temple known as ‘Mini Khajuraho’ on its periphery.
- The Pushkar Talab complex within the crater is a source of saline and alkaline water.
