Jaisamand Widlife Sanctuary is 52 Square Kms of protected area surrounding the famous Jaisamand or Dhebar Lake in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Maharaja Jai Singh created Dhebar Lake in the 17th century utilizing the waters of the Gomti River.
Wildlife of Jaisamand WLS:
The shore areas of the lake are mostly covered by teak forest. The sanctuary’s ecoregion is that of Kathiawar-Gir dry deciduous forests. The sanctuary includes panther, wild boar, deer, four-horned antelope, mongoose and various species of migratory birds. Other wildlife here includes sambar, chital, langur and chinkara. The Jaisamand lake is the abode of crocodiles, turtles and a variety of fish.
