Green Chemistry and its Applications

Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water using renewable energy (like Solar, Wind). Electricity splits water into hydrogen and oxygen.

  • Lower carbon footprint. : because it emits no greenhouse gases.
  • Energy Rich Source: It has nearly three times the energy density of diesel. However, its storage and production require careful handling due to the need for extreme cold temperatures.
  • This clean energy carrier has diverse applications across transportation, industry, and power generation, helping to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change..
  • The Green Hydrogen Standard for India, set by MNRE, establishes a criterion of 2 kg CO2 equivalent per kg H2 as a 12-month average emission threshold.

Extra:

  • National Green Hydrogen Mission- to produce 50 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen by the year 2030.
  • Rajasthan Green Hydrogen Policy 2023 – The state government has set a target of 2000 KTPA energy production by the year 2030 in the policy
