On 9th October 2021, the Union Government notified the transfer of Justice Akil Kureshi, Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Further, Justice Indrajit Mahanty, heading the Rajasthan High Court has been posted as chief justice of the Tripura High Court.
About Justice Akil Khureshi
Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi, born on 7 March 1960 is the former Chief Justice of Tripura High Court and former Judge of Bombay High Court and Gujarat High Court.
He passed LL.B. in 1983 and started practice in Gujarat High Court. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in March 2004 and became permanent judge in 2005.
Justice Kureshi was transferred to the Bombay High Court in November 2018, thereafter became the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.
Other Appointments in Rajasthan High Court
Apart from this, the Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of four lawyers and one judicial officer as judges of the Rajasthan High Court.
The decision as regards the four lawyers was taken in a Collegium meeting held on 06 October 2021 while the name of the judicial officer was recommended in the collegium meeting held on 08 October 2021.
The four lawyers recommended are(1):
1. Kuldeep Mathur
2. Maneesh Sharma
3. Rekha Borana
4. Sameer Jain
The judicial officer recommended is Shubha Mehta (2).
The Rajasthan High Court has a sanctioned strength of 50 judges but as on currently (1st October 2021), it has only 23 judges.
Later on 11th October 2021, the centre cleared the appointment of five new judges to the Rajasthan High Court, taking its working strength to 28 out of a sanctioned strength of 50. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of Bharwani, Vyas, Dhand and Bansal on 01 September 2021.

- Farjand Ali,
- Anoop Kumar Dhand
- Sudesh Bansal.
- Judicial officers
- Vinod Kumar Bharwani
- Madan Gopal Vyas
The newly appointed judges were administered oath of office by chief Justice Akil Kureshi.
