National Chambal Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary or National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife protected area on the course of Chambal river, that is sheltering a wide array of avian, aquatic, and other wildlife. It is also known as the Chambal Gharial Sanctuary for the rich population of Gharials found here.
In December 1979, Rajasthan State Government declared 274 square kilometers of area as the sanctuary.
Wild Animals in National Chambal Sanctuary
The Chambal river is abode to smooth-coated otters, eight types of tortoises, over 30 kinds of fishes, marsh crocodiles and critically endangered Gangetic dolphin.
