With Hero Future Energies (HFE), commissioning a 300 MW project at Bhadla-III Solar Park, the solar park is now fully operational with total capacity of 2245 MW. Consequently, Bhadla Solar Park has now become World’s largest Solar Park.
Bhadla Solar Park Location:
As from the name, the solar park is located at Bhadla, a sandy, dry and arid region with an area of about 45 km2. located in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. Bhadla is about 200 km north of Jodhpur and about 320 km west of Jaipur.Â
Bhadla Solar Park Development:
The park has been developed through following 4 stages:
- Bhadla Phase I: 65 MW
- Bhadla Phase II: 680 MW
- Bhadla Phase III: 1000 MW
- Bhadla Phase IV: 500 MW
- Total Capacity: 2245 MW
The project is a joint effort between the state-owned energy company NTPC, which provides electricity across the country, and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a subsidiary of the country’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
- Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL), through its subsidiary, Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company Limited (RSPDCL) – Phase I & II
- Saurya Urja Company of Rajasthan, a joint venture company of the government of Rajasthan and IL&FS Energy Development Company – Phase III
- Adani Renewable Energy Park Rajasthan, a joint venture between the government of Rajasthan and Adani Renewable Energy Park, (a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises) – Phase IV
The project is being developed under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) scheme for the development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects and is in line with the Rajasthan Solar Energy Policy, 2011.
The Bhadla Solar Park actually began in 2016 and was originally planned for completion by December 2018. However, as development continues that date has been pushed back a year. Officials now hope to complete the project by the end of 2019.
Before Bhadla, Solar Park Pavagada, Karnataka with a capacity of 2,050 MW was the largest solar park. Now, with 2,245 MW of solar project, Bhadla solar park has become the World’s largest solar park.
